Choosing a New Home Floorplan in 2022

Scoping out your options when it comes to floor plan ideas? Or simply looking for the open floor plan of your dreams? Pulte offers a variety of different floor plan designs, each carefully curated by a team of experts who rely on feedback from customers just like you.

To find the right floor plan design for you, or even just to get different floor plan ideas, we recommend using our interactive floor plan tool. This will give you the opportunity to explore the different open floor plans we offer, see what it might look like to add a room or bathroom, and even play with the different exteriors of your dream home.

In this article, we’ll walk you through how to use our interactive floor plan tool and offer some of our best advice on how to pick a floor plan idea that will work for you.

Step 1: Find a Home

We offer a sample of our interactive floor plan tool if you don’t want to look at a specific community yet and are just interested in getting more familiar with the tool. But to get a better idea of what your floor plan design options are, we recommend starting the process by finding a home. Here, you’ll be asked to pick a state and metro area. Of course, if your goal is simply to browse different floor plan ideas you can pick any state and city that you like. In fact, it might be fun to look at a few different cities and see how floor plan ideas vary in different areas.

But if you have a specific area in mind, start with that area. Don’t worry, you’ll have more than one floor plan design to choose from once you pick a community.

Step 2: Select a Community

Once you’ve picked an area, you’ll be taken to a list of available Pulte communities in that area. In some areas, you’ll find several options while in others, there might only be one or two. That’s okay. Most of our communities also offer multiple floor plan designs, so you’ll still have plenty of floor plan ideas to get inspired by. From the community page, pick your favorite community and select the “View Community” button.

As a heads up, while most of our communities offer interactive floor plans, there could be a few that don’t. Don’t worry. Just pick a different community for now, which will still give you a strong idea of how some of our homes are laid out. If you find a community that doesn’t have an interactive floor plan, you can always reach out to one of our New Home Specialists. You’ll find the phone number of the New Home Specialist for the community you’re interested in, on the community page.

Step 3: View Interactive Plan

From the community page, you’ll typically have the opportunity to explore at least a few home designs. Pick the floor plan design that sounds best to you—based on things like the number of bedrooms or bathrooms, or the amount of square footage. To explain things better we’ll look at the Grande Park Community, located in the Chicago area.

Grande Park offers five different home designs but we’ll take a look at the first one, which is called Greenfield. The exciting thing about getting floor plan ideas from our interactive tool is that you can truly start to understand the level of personalization you have when building a new home with Pulte. In our Greenfield floor plan, for example, you can decide to add a game room on the second floor, or a third bathroom. Then if you don’t like how that affects the flow of your floor plan design, you can simply deselect it.

Our interactive floor plan tool is also a great way to decide which floor plan design features are most important to you. Would you rather have a large laundry room or a fifth bedroom? Will a fireplace enhance the overall look of open floor plans? And what’s even more exciting is that once you pick a floor plan you like, you can also use our furniture planner to help decide which floor plan ideas work best around your own custom style.

Once you’ve done your research on open floor plans and maxed out all of the floor plan ideas that you can handle, you can start browsing home design trends, get lighting ideas for how to make your space more welcoming, or learn more about how to start the home buying process. Just remember, picking a floor plan is just the first step to your new home construction journey.
