Best Beaches Within an Hour of Sarasota
Few cities incarnate everything that represents Florida living better than Sarasota. If you enjoy glistening blue seas, abundant sunshine no matter the time of year, powdery white sand, and easy living, you are in luck. Not only is Sarasota the perfect theater for your dream vacation, but it is also a great place to call home and is one of the best cities for young families to live in Florida.
Living in Sarasota will give you access to its excellent school system and convenient location between Tampa and Naples. It also benefits from beautiful architecture and a vibrant art scene. There is always plenty to do in Sarasota! However, the essential Sarasota attraction is the beach. With 40 miles of coastline and six barrier islands, there is a lot to choose from. Here are some of our favorite Sarasota beaches!
Siesta Key is widely regarded, among locals and visitors alike, as one of the best beaches in Sarasota, and possibly the world. The eight-miles island is divided between three beaches. Siesta Beach is the most popular, thanks to its powdered-sugar-like sand made of 99 percent pure quartz. It includes all the amenities you could need for a perfect day at the beach, from restrooms and a children's playground to rentals and concessions. Crescent Beach is slightly quieter. Meanwhile, Turtle Beach is significantly more peaceful and, while it is not as well equipped in terms of facilities, it is a favorite among families. Siesta Key is accessible from the mainland via two bridges. Although the beaches offer plenty of parking, the lots tend to feel up rapidly, especially on the weekends. To enjoy some of the best beaches within an hour of Sarasota without dealing with parking woes, get there early.
Lido Beach, located on Lido Key, is a far cry from its more crowded Siesta Key neighbor. This family-friendly retreat features over a mile of beachfront. It is easy to reach from Sarasota as it is located less than a mile away from the St Armands Circle shopping center. The Lido beach provides the usual amenities, including restrooms, showers, concessions, beach equipment rentals, and a spacious 400 car parking lot. Besides, if sand and saltwater are not your cup of tea, Lido Beach also offers a heated community swimming pool, accessible for a small fee.
Caspersen Beach is a paradise for nature lovers. Besides, it is also conveniently accessible from downtown by foot via the Venetian Waterway Trail. It is an excellent spot for bird watching and seashell hunting. You may even spot some sea turtle eggs if you are lucky! However, the crowning glory of Caspersen Beach is that it is known as the Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World for being (you guessed it) an unmatched location to find prehistoric sharks’ teeth. With a little luck and patience, a visit to Caspersen Beach could help you bring a unique souvenir. Traditional amenities, such as parking, picnic shelters, playground, restrooms, and showers, are also available.
If you don’t feel like fighting the crowds, you will love Coquina Beach. This Sarasota beach is a peaceful oasis with plenty of room to roam. Located at the southern end of Anna Maria Island, it offers the usual amenities, an abundance of free parking, and a welcoming cafe. Coquina Beach is a favorite among seashells hunters, but also sea turtles who frequently lay their eggs in the white sand. With its tranquil waters and relaxing atmosphere, it offers everything you need for the perfect day at the beach within an hour of Sarasota.
If you are visiting Sarasota with your pooch in tow and you are dreaming of a dip in crystal blue waters to cool down, head to Brohard Beach Paw Park. It is the only beach in Sarasota County that will allow your four-legged companion to join in the fun. The fenced play yard leads right to the water. Brohard Beach offers all the amenities needed for dogs and their humans to enjoy their time at the beach safely, including doggie fountains, dog showers, leash posts, waste disposal bags, and trash cans.
