And you’d be remiss if you didn’t catch at least one of the top beachside restaurants the city has to offer.
Whether you’re searching for new homes for sale in Orange County to design your next dream home, visiting for the first time, or a long-time local that’s on the hunt for a new spot—we hope there’s at least one restaurant on this list that you haven’t tried yet. So without further ado, here are our top beach restaurants in Orange County.
Fisherman’s Restaurant and Bar
Located on the Historic San Clemente Pier, try breakfast on the beach at Fisherman's Restaurant and Bar and choose from menu items like a soft-shell crab benedict, a waffle benedict, or a mixed seafood benedict. Fisherman’s specializes in fresh seafood—including wild-caught salmon, clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, shrimp, crab legs, Halibut, Ono, Swordfish, Mahi Mahi, and calamari.
Located directly on the pier, they have ample tables inside, outside, and along the ocean with outdoor heaters in between them. Locals consider it a great date night spot, with the perfect opportunity to listen to the waves crashing underneath and watch the sunset. And according to some guests, their margaritas can’t be missed. Also good for vacationers, but parking can be tricky and on weekends, expect to wait about half an hour for a table if you have an early dinner (around 6 ish).
With world-class hospitality and a chef-curated menu, Las Brisas delivers classic Southern Californian cuisine along with a panoramic view of Laguna Beach's coastline. Enjoy an elegant indoor dining room or head out to their relaxing outdoor patio area to get an even more intimate, beachside restaurant experience.
Located at the primo Pacific Ocean overlook on the north end of Laguna's Main Beach Park, the view at sunset has been described as nothing short of spectacular. Reservations are a must, according to most, if you want to dine on the outdoor terraced patio. Food-wise, you can choose from a wide selection of Mexican seafood dishes—adorned with slightly sweet, slightly spicy sauces made with fresh fruit and veggies.
On cooler nights, guests said the breeze could get chilly, so you might want to bring a sweater if you’re the type of person that runs cold.
Widely known for quirky, homestyle breakfast, lunch, and dinner options featuring large portions and an eclectic selection of 40 beers on tap served in 32-ounce schooners—Mutt’s is a more laid-back spot than the places mentioned above. Especially on Sunday Funday, when guests gather to sing along to the jukebox, watch the game, and meet new and old friends over a giant mimosa while enjoying an unbeatable ocean view.
Established in 1976, the original restaurant was located by the ferry at the Balboa Fun Zone, but it burned down and wasn’t rebuilt again at its current location until 1982. With the same owners and same traditions, many of Mutt’s guests have been returning for at least a decade or so although it’s possible to catch some new faces too.
Located at Newport Beach, it’s a small drive from other Orange County restaurants, but for those looking for something off the beaten path—Mutt’s is an ideal beachside restaurant. And Newport is also a popular destination for those looking for new homes for sale in the Orange County area. Not to mention that beaches in Newport are continuous—the city beach stretches from Balboa Pier Beach to the south to West Newport Park to the north, with a picturesque wooden fishing pier offering wonderful views up and down the shoreline.
