How to Create A Peaceful Bedroom for a Great Night's Sleep

If you struggle to sleep well, you've probably tried everything under the sun to try and sleep better. However, you might not have thought to make changes in your bedroom in order to feel more peaceful before bed. If you are looking at remodeling, renovating or moving, there are a lot of things that you can do to create a more restful environment for yourself.

 

Choose the Right Color Scheme and Style

The colors around you have more of an impact on your mood and function level than you think they will. When it comes to your bedroom, choosing the right color scheme could make or break your sleep.

 

 

The Best Color for Sleep

The color blue has been found to be the best color for your sleep overall - any shade. This is because is a calming color. Whenever your retinas see it, they will send a message to your brain that you are somewhere calm and that it's okay to lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Both of these signals will help you to get to sleep easier.

  • Green- Those who slept in green bedrooms in the study found that they were more likely to wake up feeling happy in the morning.
  • Silver- If you want something a little less colorful try using a metallic silver that does very little reflection for the best effect.
  • Yellow- Try to avoid going overboard with yellow, because it can be a little bold for a restful environment, but it also makes you feel happier. We could all use a little bit of that.
  • Orange- The color orange is warm and relaxing and has been found to help with indigestion. If this is something that you struggle with, think about painting your room a light or muted orange.

 

Using any of these colors in light or muted colors will be helpful for your sleep and in creating a color scheme that is perfect for relaxation.

 

Whatever color you choose, try to keep the paint finish flat or matte in order to get the best sleep possible. Satin or eggshell finish paints can lead to reflected light distracting you when you should be sleeping.

  • Gray
  • Brown
  • Red

 

Pick the Perfect Mattress

Moving a mattress is a pain. so, if you're thinking about are remodeling, think about taking this time to replace your mattress. Sleeping on the right kind of mattress for you and your partner can make a huge difference in how much sleep you get and how rested you feel when you wake up in the morning. You can also update your comforter or duvet to something that matches your new color scheme. Stick to the same colors you chose earlier and all will be well.

 

Avoid Reflective Surfaces

Like we mentioned earlier, reflective surfaces reflect light. The more light that is moving around in your room while you were trying to sleep, the worse sleep you're going to get overall. You can cut down on the amount of light that you see by cutting out the reflective surfaces. You can also hang blackout curtains over your windows, which will help to cut out the amount of light total that enters your room while you were sleeping.

Add Cold Air

Humans sleep best at a temperature between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit. In order to make sure that you are able to get to sleep easily, find a way to cool down the air in your bedroom. You can do this with a ceiling fan, a rotating fan or by turning up the air conditioning. Having fans on will also help you to cut out some of the noise that you might hear from around the rest of your house
