Best Places to Live in the Greater Boston

Browsing Boston metro cities to find the best places to live in Boston? Or trying to explore home builders in Boston to find your dream new construction home? Here is a bit of advice on discovering the best places to live in Boston.

Boston Metro Area Cities Worth Considering

If you’re looking for a new home in the Boston area, you might quickly find that many homes are outside your price range or simply don’t offer the space you’re looking for. Or if you’re interested in a new construction home, living outside the Boston metro area might be your only choice. But that’s okay. There are plenty of other Boston metro area cities to explore.

Great for Young Families: Sudbury, Massachusetts

A suburb of Boston that’s commonly referred to as one of the best places to live in the Boston metro area, Sudbury has a population of 19,122. From top schools to great housing, Sudbury is a low-crime area that is great for families but also has a reasonable nightlife.

If you’re looking for new home construction in Sudbury, be one of the first to live at Preston at Cold Brook Crossing. Opening in the middle of 2021, it might be one of few chances to catch new home construction in the highly coveted area where new homes sell quickly.

Suburban meets rural in this quiet, safe neighborhood filled with green spaces. Nature lovers will enjoy biking, hiking, birding, canoeing, and other outdoor activities right in town. You’ll also find homes with spacious yards and down-to-earth neighbors. On weekends, head to the Wayside Inn at Grist Mill where you can grab a quaint lunch and catch sight of a replica, early 1740s grist mill that’s still used for grinding grains.

Looking for more of an adrenaline rush? Try Boston Paintball Maynard. Located on the grounds of the Maynard Rod and Gun Club, you’ll find different styles of paintball for players of all ages. Or go in the opposite direction and wind down at the EveryBody in Mind Wellness Center.

For your morning pick-me-up, you can try Karma Coffee or Sudbury Coffee Works—a relaxing place where you can get an espresso-based drink and sandwich. Other casual food options include CJ’s Pizza and Grill or Clover, a contemporary health fast food restaurant. Or for an indulgent night out try Bullfinch's Restaurant, an American contemporary restaurant offering vegetarian options.

Great for Active Adults: Upton, Massachusetts

Also considered a “best place to live” in the Boston metro area is Upton. With a population of 7,894, it’s less than half the size of Sudbury but offers plenty of picturesque restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. The residents of Upton tend to be on the liberal side and public schools in Upton are highly rated.

If you’re in search of new home builders in the area, check out the new home construction at Upton Ridge, set between the State Forest and Shining Rock Golf Course. With commanding views and natural beauty, you can choose between four thoughtfully designed townhome styles that offer the best in easy living for sophisticated 55+ buyers.

There are plenty of places to enjoy nature in Upton, including the Upton State Forest. A great place to catch a breath of clean air, you’ll find it easy to relax and unwind on one of the many natural paths which offer a mix of flat and hilly terrain. Or take in the sights at the man-made Dean Pond, which is a halfway point on the 3-mile loop road.

For a night out you can catch dinner at the Red Rock Grill and Bar, known for its creative dishes. Find your caffeine fix at the Little Coffee Bean or enjoy some local ice cream at JJ's Ice Cream Shoppe.

There are plenty of other Boston metro cities to explore on your search for the best places to live in the Boston area. But the two Boston metro cities above are a great place to start if you're looking for charm and new home construction. Make your move to the Boston area and discover what it’s like to be a Boston local.
