About the Area

Many quaint towns and villages make up prestigious Loudoun County and offer residents a peaceful escape from everyday life. It's the best of both worlds in the sense that it gives you the convenience of an urban area, but without the hectic pace. Because Ashburn is home to several large corporate headquarters, the Washington Redskins, and small tech firms, it's an ideal community for employees.

Shopping

There are three large shopping plazas within two miles of Windermere offering a range of conveniences including banks, fast food, and grocery stores such as Harris Teeter, Giant, and Safeway. Dulles Town Center is one of the area's newest malls and is located a short distance from Windermere. Macy's, Lord & Taylor, and Nordstrom are just a few of the nearly 200 stores at Dulles Town Center. Nearby Sterling and Leesburg also feature an abundance of big name retailers including Costco, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy.

Medical

INOVA Loudoun Hospital is a state-of-the-art medical facility just seven miles from Windermere just off of Route 7 in Landsdowne. For non-emergency situations, there is a NOVA urgent care facility at the corner of Waxpool Road and Loudoun County Parkway, and a Medics USA urgent Care facility in the Ashburn Shopping Plaza off of Ashburn Village Boulevard and Gloucester Parkway.

Transportation

The Loudoun County Commuter Bus provides weekday service from the Dulles North Transit Center in Sterling (at the intersection of Old Ox Road and Moran Road) to various locations in Washington D.C. For those looking for local transportation, Virginia Regional Transit provides bus service within Loudoun County.

Recreation

Loudoun County has a great Parks and Recreation department and you can take advantage of the Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, as well as a ton of outdoor parks like Ashburn and Bles Park. For the younger ones, there are before- and after-school programs, and there are sports leagues for adults.

Culture / Entertainment

Downtown Leesburg, Middleburg, and Purcellville are lined with unique shops and restaurants that attract people from all around Washington, DC. There are a number of wineries in Loudoun County-the perfect place to enjoy a lazy afternoon in the country. Loudoun County is also well known as horse country, so take in a horse show at Fox Chase Farm in Middleburg or get in the saddle yourself at Serene Acres in Bluemont. Loudon County also sponsors a concert series, festivals, and holiday extravaganzas.

Schools

Windermere is located in the Loudoun County School District, so children may attend Creightons Corner Elementary, Stone Hill Middle School, and Briar Woods High School. In addition, George Washington and Strayer Universities both have campuses in Ashburn.
