About the Area
Originally known as Mechanicsville, the village that became Olney was established in 1800. The area was mostly farmland, but it soon began attracting artisans. Just 20 miles north of Washington, DC, Olney puts you a short drive away from the culture and history of our nation’s capital, four-star restaurants, and an exciting array of entertainment options. If you’re up to it, you could even hike or bike to Washington, DC on the footpath that extends from Olney all the way along the Potomac waterfront.

Enjoy an abundance of shopping in nearby Maryland locations, including Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg and White Flint Mall in Bethesda.

Transportion
There are three Red Line Metro stations within 10 miles of the community: Glenmont, Shady Grove, and Rockville. In addition, there is a park and ride station at Norbeck Road that continues on to the Glenmont station. The community is also a short drive from I-495 and I-270. The Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) and the Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) are the nearby airports.
